About Us

Birch House was opened in 2008 by husband and wife Tom and Nina Brereton. Both Tom and Nina graduated from the British school of osteopathy's four year course with BSc (hons) in 2003, since then have been registered with the General Osteopathic Council.

Tom

Tom originally comes from Shropshire. Tom has trained at both the John Wernham college of classical osteopathy (JWCCO) and the British school of osteopathy (BSO) giving him a fairly unique insight into both traditional osteopathy and the more modern techniques. Toms training and experience have enabled him to treat all ranges of patient presentations from acute to chronic and typical to complex, adapting his technique to suit all ranges of individual.

Tom is fully registered with the General osteopathic council, a member of the Institute of osteopathy and regularly completes training with the Academy of physical medicine.

As the son of a vet Tom grew up around many, many animals (ask him about the owl in the bathroom!) and it was this that led him to develop a special interest in veterinary osteopathy, particulary the treatment of horses and dogs, he completed his postgraduate diploma in 2005.

Outside of work Tom is a keen photographer, enjoys gardening, he always has a book on the go, he likes long walks and country pubs!

Nina

Nina grew up in Dorset before beginning her Osteopathic training in London, after graduating in 2003 she worked first in Bournemouth, the New forest and then Wales before settling in Yate in 2007. She feels that she has benefited from working in a variety of practices with different approaches.

Nina is fully registered with the General osteopathic council (GOSC), a member of the Institute of Osteopathy and the Academy of physical medicine, where she does a lot of her ongoing training.

Nina is an experienced osteopath who works with soft tissue (massage) and joint release techniques to improve joint range of motion and reduce muscle tension.

When not working she enjoys long walks with the dog, cooking, reading, films and shes recently taken up clay pigeon shooting. The rest of her time is filled with noisy, delightful children!
